Oscar in Red

8 x 8 in, oil on linen canvas

As we pack up the decorations, Oscar is hanging on to the last vestiges of the holidays by wrapping himself in the Christmas tree skirt. It's sad to see the holidays end but exciting to think about what the new year will bring!

Bird Watching

8 x 8 in, oil on linen canvas

Here are three very attentive birders squeezing together for a good look. Ordinarily they wouldn't like to be this close to each other but bird watching is a team sport!

Jabba

8 x 8 in, oil on linen canvas

This is Oscar doing his "Jabba the hut" imitation. Oscar really does have a neck but sometimes he likes to scrunch his head down into his shoulders so he can look plump and strange. He's a big Star Wars fan.

Boo

8 x 8 in, oil on linen canvas

Boo is a cat with discriminating taste. He has a few close friends and he likes it that way. He's a very sweet cat but only when he wants to be. You don't want to mess with Boo!

Green Eyed Boy

This is our green eyed boy, Oscar. His favorite activities are sleeping, sleeping on laps, and eating. He's not much of an exercise buff.

You Talkin to Me?

8 x 10 in, watercolor

Here's Vinny trying to fit into a small patch of sunshine. I've exaggerated his girth but he, like so many of us, struggles with his weight.

Vinny

8 x 10 in
oil on canvas

This is just a brief detour from the dogs. Cats are people too. This is my daughter's cat, Vinny flashing his Mona Lisa smile. He's a former Iowa street cat now living the good life in San Francisco. It pays to beg for food at my door!

Big Fluffball

5 x 7 in
oil on gessoboard

Hi, I'm back. I went to a cat show recently (yes they really exist). I don't know which was more interesting...the cat people or the cats. This furball looks like he's taking a nap, but actually he was getting brushed and fluffed for his big moment on stage!

Mama Kitty

8 x 8 in, oil on linen canvas

Mama Kitty is a feral cat who lives in a crate (equipped with a heated blanket) by our front porch. She loves to accompany us on our daily dog walks. After having a few litters and eluding our numerous attempts to catch her, she finally gave in and we were able to have her spayed. I think she's grateful and leaves mouse tokens on our sidewalk every so often. By the looks of her girth, it appears she's already enjoyed a Thanksgiving feast!

Oscar

8 x 8 in, oil on linen canvas

Oscar was a former wild kitty roaming the countryside with his siblings. He's now a laid back lap cat who sits with me every morning while I'm on the computer. He's a big fan of keyboard cat.

Cozy Kitty

8 x 8 in, oil on canvas

Why is it that sleeping cats always look so warm and comfy? I saw this guy curled up in a basket in a store in California. He looks quite content.

Truman

8 x 8, oil on stretched canvas

Our barn cat Tiger had a friend we named Truman after Truman Capote. This cat was intelligent and sensitive. We think he was a writer in one of his former nine lives.

Tiger

6 x 6, oil on gessoboard

When I was a teenager, I desperately wanted a cat for a pet. So when a little tiger-striped cat moved into our new barn, I was thrilled. She knew how to catch mice and stay clear of horses' hooves.
